It took Fabian Foret until the last minute to set the fastest time in World Supersport’s opening qualifying session at Philip Island.
The Frenchman topped the times in FP1 but had to contend with David Salom through qualifying. The Spaniard led the way throughout but ultimately had to settle for the second fastest time, just 0.075s behind the 2002 WSS champion. The pair was in a league of their own throughout qualifying with Sam Lowes, their nearest competitor, 0.8s adrift.
Leading Yamaha rider, Chaz Davis, was fourth fastest but almost one second adrift of the pace. He led a gaggle of six riders separated by just 0.3s with the midfield pack closely matched.
