Salom takes first career pole

David Salom took the first pole position of his career in the early hours of this morning after setting the pace in qualifying ahead of tomorrow’s opening round of the World Supersport season.

The Spaniard, second in each session thus far this weekend, stole pole position from Fabien Foret with a last minute lap. The front row will be completed by the impressive Sam Lowes and Salom’s teammate, Broc Parkes.

Lowes a British Supersport racer last season has adapted well to WSS and his race pace looks set to offer hope of a podium for the Parkalgar Honda rider.

Former World Superbike racer, Luca Scassa, will line up fifth on the grid just ahead of Roberto Tamburini. Tamburini, riding for ParkinGP Yamaha, has been very fast throughout the weekend and should have a strong race tomorrow. The second row will also see Florian Marino and Chaz Davies line up at the front of the grid.

Gino Rea has had a trying weekend with two heavy crashes leading to a torn tendon but the Englishman still managed to qualify in the top ten, just ahead of compatriot, James Ellison.
