Casey Stoner continued to set the pace in Qatar with the Australian 0.4s faster than Dani Pedrosa in second practice for the season opening Grand Prix. Stoner was once again the first man to set fast times in practice and showed his hand on the third lap of this session.
American Ben Spies impressed by setting the third fastest time and once more outpaced his teammate, Jorge Lorenzo. The Spaniard suffered a problem at the start of the session and was delayed in the garage. It has been a challenging week for Lorenzo but he looked much happier with his bike in this session and seems to be finding the balance that he needs.
It was a good day for Yamaha with Colin Edwards performing well and finishing sixth and the Texan’s Tech 3 teammate, Cal Crutchlow, eighth. The satellite Yamaha’s were separated by factory Honda rider Marco Simoncelli with Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden the other top ten runners.
