Hayden saving tyres ahead of wet weekend

With rain having affected the opening day of practice ahead of Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix many within the paddock have spent the day looking at the skies and checking the weather forecast.

With rain expected for Saturday and Sunday and riders limited to four sets of wet weather tyres Nicky Hayden was keen to ensure that he had enough sets of threaded rubber for qualifying and the race.

When asked about the conditions and the durability of the Bridgestone wet weather tyre Hayden said, “the wet tyres went pretty quick but the track was dry and hot [by the end of the session].”

The American though clearly spent much of the morning session thinking about the rest of the weekend and with new wet tyres sure to be a valuable commodity the Ducati rider limited his running throughout the day:

“We didn’t go out this morning because we are limited to tyres and we didn’t want to destroy a set for that if its going to be wet tomorrow for qualifying as the forecast says it could be.”
