Espargaro shines at Silverstone

Rain or shine Pol Espargaro was the man to beat during practice in the Moto2 class at Silverstone today. The Pons rider ended the afternoon session fastest by over half a second in dry conditions from Scott Redding with Bradley Smith third fastest.

The Spaniard was complete control by the close of the session and eventually wound up with a half second advantage over Redding. This followed from his commanding performance in the opening session where he outpaced Smith.

The pace of the British duo continued a vein of form that has seen Danny Kent top the opening Moto3 session. Whether the home crowd will continue to see their compatriots perform so well over the course of the weekend remains to be seen but on a day of mostly cold and wet weather it was important that the crowd had something to cheer about.

Marc Marquez was fourth fastest, just ahead of Johann Zarco and Alex de Angelis. Championship leader, Thomas Luthi, struggled throughout and finished the session down the field in 19th
