Maverick Vinales claimed pole position ahead of tomorrow’s British Moto3 Grand Prix.
The Spaniard, who claimed his first career pole at Silverstone last year, was in terrific form and ended the session two tenths of a second faster than his compatriot, Efren Vazquez, with Alexis Masbou completing the front row.
The constant threat of showers meant that the action was thick and fast throughout the session with numerous riders, including Vazquez, setting their fastest time on their opening stint. Vinales on the other hand bedded himself into the session and got faster with each run until setting his fastest time in the final ten minutes of the session.
Sandro Cortese, the championship leader, was fastest in two practice sessions but was unable to regain that form in qualifying. The German wound up with the fourth fastest time almost one second off the pace. In the closing minutes he found himself trapped in heavy traffic and unable to set a time that would reflect his true pace.
With MotoGP’s Cal Crutchlow sidelined following his morning crash Danny Kent gave the home crowd something to cheer about by setting the fifth fastest time. Luis Salom rounds out the second row with 2012 race winners, Louis Rossi and Romano Fenati lining up on the third row of the grid.
