Alvaro Bautista credited his pole position to hard work done by his Gresini team to improve his Honda.
The Spaniard topped the qualifying time-sheets after spending recent testing in Spain concentrating on suspension development. The Gresini squad is the only team in the MotoGP paddock using Showa suspension and it has taken Bautista time to adapt having used Ohlins at Suzuki in the past.
Speaking after claiming his first premier class pole position Bautista commented on the suspension and setup changes that have made a considerable difference to his confidence aboard the RCV213.
“We worked on the suspension because we use the same suspension since winter testing in Malaysia,” said Bautista. “At the beginning I had to understand the bike and adapt my riding style to what this bike needs. We work very well with Showa and we improved the front fork.”
Baustista then went on to say that the team have also made changes to the weight distribution and geometry of the bike.
“Now we have more weight on the front and we have better balance in the corner. I t helps a lot to turn in the corner and in braking.”
