Stoner refused to push to the limit during race

Casey Stoner took a battering in his hefty Assen crash but during the race the Australian fought through the pain barrier to claim the victory and move level with Jorge Lorenzo at the head of the championship standings.

Speaking after the race it was clear just how much Stoner was feeling the effects of his injuries.

“The crash took a lot out of me,” said the reigning champion. “Not so much confidence wise but I didn’t want to push hard enough and risk another crash; I was already hurting enough and didn’t want to add to that.”

Following his crash Stoner struggled in qualifying before claiming the pole position in the dying moments of the session.

“Things went our way in the second half of the weekend but we still had to go out there and do the job. It felt very nice [to turn around the weekend].”
