When speaking with the media after qualifying the the Repsol Honda rider was relatively happy with his starting position because it met the targets that he had set for himself. With no preseason test at the technical Cicuit de Catalunya Marquez has said for some time that he thought this would be one of the more challenging weekends of his season.
“I said on Thursday that this circuit would be difficult because all of the other riders have done lots of MotoGP tests here,” said the reigning Moto2 world champion. “It’s one of the most difficult circuits, like Mugello, with many long corners and with MotoGP you need to try and go into the corner fast and be wide in the middle of the corner to prepare for the exit. I said that I expected to struggle a little bit. This afternoon I struggled a little bit so tomorrow we will try something with the setup to improve the corner exit. At the moment I am hitting my target of the first two rows.”
Like many other riders Marquez will use tomorrow’s warm up session to come to a decision in relation to which compound of rear tyre that he will use during the 25 lap race.
“The hard tyre is working not so bad and the soft is working better at the beginning but struggling at the end. With the hard tyre you need to plan the race and with the soft you try and attack.”
