Dani Pedrosa finished the day with the third fastest time in the wet weather afternoon session but speaking afterwards it was clear that the Spaniard was disappointed with his performance today.
Having finished the morning session over seven tenths of a second off the pace it is clear that the Repsol Honda rider was not happy with his bike in the dry conditions. With a track temperature of only 17C it was very cold in Assen with the wind also blowing quite strongly adding an extra dimension of difficulty.
Afterwards Pedrosa admitted that it was hard to say exactly how he had fared in the dry conditions:
“It is hard to say,” said Pedrosa when asked about his morning performance. “Many things happen in the first practice session it was cold and there was no rubber. Also we are not very integrated with the track. We have to look again at different settings to try and get a better feeling especially when the weather is so important this weekend for the grip.
“The track was not the best today. In the morning it was quite cold and the tyres were not giving good grip. This is the same tyre as Mugello and it is a little harder and in the colder temperatures with this tyre we were spinning a lot and the tyre was not giving a good performance.”
In the wetter afternoon session he trailed his teammate, Marc Marquez, but seemed much happier on the bike. Having used the softer compound rear tyre Pedrosa stressed that in conditions where there was standing water it was the only tyre that was possible to use but if a dry line developed that the harder compound would be the better tyre to use.
