Alonso: We are not delivering

Fernando-Alonso-Monaco-2013-(6)Fernando Alonso was uncharacteristically downcast following qualifying for the British Grand Prix.
The Spaniard struggled through to Q3 but could only post the tenth fastest time in the final ten minutes. Having struggled at Monaco and Canada it is the latest in a string of disappointing outings from Ferrari and finding himself almost 1.5s off the pace of Lewis Hamilton was clearly exceptionally disappointing for Alonso:
“We are not delivering what we are supposed to delivery with the new parts,” said the double world champion. “Some of them are not working and we are losing some pace compared to the top teams. But it’s hard to imagine that we have lost so much. Two months ago we were only two tenths off the fastest cars now we are one second.
“At this moment it is the way that we are performing is not working. At the beginning of the year we were usually on the front two rows of the grid and here we are unfortunately fighting for Q3 just like last year. We are tenth so we need to come back to the form of the start of the year immediately.”
With Vettel qualifying third the championship leader has a significant advantage over Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen. Alonso made clear that he is aware that time is running out for his championship assault and that finding a solution was critical:
“We need to improve our situation immediately and to react for tomorrow’s race and next week in Germany and Hungary. We need to also remain very calm and have a general view of what we do good and what we do wrong and try to improve it.”
