Jorge Lorenzo was passed fit by race direction to race at this weekend’s United States Grand Prix but the Spaniard is far from certain to race on Sunday.
Having undergone two operations on his collarbone following crashes at the Dutch TT and German GP the reigning world champion has faced questions about why he has decided to compete this weekend. When asked if Yamaha have placed pressure on him to race the Spaniard dismissed such speculation:
“The pressure is from myself,” said Lorenzo. “I want to ride and Yamaha have never pushed me to race here, it was my decision; I want to win the championship.”
Wanting to race and being able to race are two different things and Lorenzo went on to say that he would assess his condition after this afternoon’s session.
“I felt better at Assen but actually when I get to the track I did not feel much better. I didn’t get inflamation like I did in Assen but if I get it tomorrow or in the race it is not so simple to race here at Laguna. I will try this afternoon and see how I feel.”
