Front tyre woes leave Bradl struggling

stefan bradl misano motogp fp2 2013The opening day of running at the San Marino Grand Prix proved to be quite difficult for Stefan Bradl with the German eventually finishing with the ninth fastest time following a crash in FP2.

The LCR Honda rider suffered a low sider midway through the 45 minute session after pushing the front end through turn six and then having it fold underneath him. The crash did little damage to the bike but cost the former Moto2 champion some valuable track time and also compounded his lack of confidence in the front end:

“I just lost the front at turn six but I don’t think that there was much damage done to the bike,” said Bradl. “Our main issue is the front, we have too many problems with the front tyre and we can’t enter the corner like I want to. This track is the type where you can lose the front very easily. We lost the front and are a little bit too slow so we need to find improvement tomorrow to be in a better shape.”

In addition to a lack of grip the bumpy nature of the track surface also caused issues for Honda’s riders with Marc Marquez commenting that:

“The track grip isn’t perfect but it’s bumpy. I feel a lot of bumps and the grip isn’t great but it should improve. The biggest problem is the bumps though and we’ll have to adapt.”
