Bryan Staring finished almost two minutes off the pace at Sepang and afterwards the Australian struggled to find positives from another difficult weekend. The Gresini rider, riding the FTR Honda, has struggled throughout his rookie MotoGP season but at Sepang he was able to fight with Luca Scassa throughout the 20 lap race.
Speaking after the race Staring said:
“It was an average race and a pretty average weekend really,” admitted the rookie. “We needed the pace of even the testing in February but we couldn’t get down to match our times. I didn’t have a good feeling and I couldn’t find a rhythm. We had the race that we expected but at least I could race with Scassa and have a fight to make it less boring but the result was disappointing.”
When asked what has been the issues for him throughout his rookie campaign Staring admitted that he has struggled to adapt to the characteristics of the bike and that stability has been a major issue with “The bike is constantly moving and it’s very difficult to build confidence on.”
Next weekend will be the Australian’s home Grand Prix at Philip and he is hoping that he will be able to have a strong weekend and ride at his best:
“No matter the result it will be a special weekend [at Philip Island]. I’ve had 15 races this season and not one has been good so I hope next week I have a race that I can hold my head up high afterwards where everything went well and I rode my ass off.”
