After a winter of doom and gloom at Red Bull where the team struggled for any reliability during testing today showed some encouraging signs for the reigning world champions. Sebastian Vettel had very limited running in the morning session but in the afternoon the German completed a session high 41 laps en route to setting the fourth fastest time.
A brief excursion at the first corner was a slight blemish on the afternoon for Vettel but it was only a small error and did no damage to his car. Having spent the winter fighting from a defensive position with Red Bull written off by the majority of the paddock today will have signaled that they should still be in a position to score points on Sunday if the car is reliable.
“In a way it’s a relief today, the fact that we were running, we didn’t have any problems, the balance was good and the performance looked alright. In the end Friday times are not worth a lot, but it’s better to be close to the top rather than somewhere towards the back, so I’m very happy with that. We will do what we can to prepare for tomorrow and Sunday, but let’s see where we are then – the most important thing is that we finish.”
