Changes to the electronics package of his Forward Yamaha left Aleix Espargaro pleased with his opening day at Mugello and excited for his weekend. The Spaniard, who struggled at Le Mans, has been trying to recapture his stellar form from the early season races but with the team now adjusting their package to mirror the Factory Yamaha seems to have given Espargaro more confidence in the bike again.
Speaking exclusively to Crash.net after the opening day at Mugello Espargaro said:
“I’m happy because we changed the strategy with the electronics,” said Espargaro. “Two weeks ago at Le Mans we had a lot of problems with the electronics so we changed the traction control and it was a lot better. We also tried different things to cool the brakes because on the last lap at Jerez and Le Mans I had no brakes so this was also really good but we didn’t have enough time to test the setup of the bike.
“The strategy and how to work the electronics is different now. We worked in one direction and then Yamaha recommended us to work in a completely different direction, the same as they work in the official team, and for riding style it doesn’t affect it much. Maybe it’s a bit smoother but it’s safer for the engines and that’s good.”
Espargaro ended the day sixth fastest.
