Mugello is always one of the most popular rounds of the season and having spent the week in a Tuscan villa I can highly recommend this race once again! The weather at Mugello was varied this weekend with Friday afternoon a complete washout and the rest of the week seeing high temperatures and a great battle for the win.
Valentino Rossi always has a special helmet at his home races but this year’s version disappointed me. Not as creative as you’d expect from Rossi, maybe he’s ran out of ideas after creating so many one-off designs!
Andrea Iannone’s helmet on the other hand had lots of ideas in it…but they were shotgunned onto the helmet to create one of the most mismatched looks in years!
Custom helmet-check. Custom bike-check. Win your home race-check! Not a bad weekend for Romano Fenati with the Italian claiming his second home victory
Mugello was the first time that Cal Crutchlow raced in front of the Ducati fans on home ground. An early crash, that saw him take out Stefan Bradl, meant that his miserable start to the season continued
His podium in Le Mans meant that Bautista arrived in Italy in good spirits but the Spaniard once against struggled with his Showa/Nissin package and couldn’t get any more than 8th in the race
The rain delay on Friday gave Colin Edwards enough time to mess around on pitlane!
The race saw Jorge Lorenzo finally look like a four times world champion. He may have been beaten by Marc Marquez but he gave it everything he had before being beaten by one tenth
Another race and another Marquez victory but the pack was closing on him…
The midpack CRT battle at Mugello!
The upper midpack Open class battle of Mugello!Pedrosa, Espargaro and Dovizioso battle into turn one under the watchful gaze of the marshalls
Sam Lowes qualified a career best second at Mugello but in the race the Englishman fell back to eighth
Josh Herrin had a torrid season with Caterham and was dropped after the summer break. The American will regroup in 2015 in the AMA Supersport class but it’s a tough ask to get back to the top tiers of racing after such a disastrous year
The battle in Moto3 was as cutthroat as ever in Mugello
When waiting for the Moto2 race to start a lizard dropped by…
